Georgia Moses – rededication ceremony

This afternoon, 3:30pm, at Petaluma City Hall will be a rededication ceremony of the recently transplanted memorial for Georgia Moses, a 12-year old who was left naked and dead under a tree very close to the Petaluma Blvd. South on ramp to Highway 101.  In attendance will be representatives from various organizations including the Family Justice Center, Guided To Safety, as well as District Attorney Jill Ravitch.  The memorial  serves not only as reminder of a life ended all-too-soon, but of child and relationship abuse, as well.

Upon learning Caltrans’ would be destroying the memorial in the process of widening the freeway, community members Maureen McGuigan, Kit Lofroos and Dusty Resnick took on the daunting task of acquiring approvals and making arrangements to move Georgia’s memorial from its original location to City Hall.

Further details on Georgia and this unnecessary tragedy can be found in an October 25 Petaluma Patch article as well as a November 2 article in the Press Democrat.

The following is the song, “Georgia Lee”, written by Tom Waits, along with video of the memorial in its original location.
